Gifting Starter Kits of Eco-Friendly Bags to Delis
This video is part of a small crowdfunding campaign launched on November 15th, 2023, on the one-year anniversary of the day the world population reached 8 billion!
The intention was to donate starter kits of reusable bags to a few NYC corner stores (also known as delis or bodegas), interested in making the switch from offering free plastic bags to selling reusable ones. Long story short, at the end of the campaign the gift was redirected toward the other side of the counter – to customers. (Watch the videos on the Home page to catch a glimpse of those bags.)
The top 24 donors (if certain conditions had been met) would have received one hand-painted T-shirt each.
One design was inspired by the image of the New York pigeon in distress seen in the video; another featured the E A R T H I S ? quiz, first introduced in the eco-scavenger hunt material, in November 2022. As of 2025, the quiz remains unanswered.
The 8 Bi11ion Month ’23 – Real Love, Simple Action event was held on 11/11, marking one year since we became 8 billion people on Earth. However, the campaign was ready to launch only four days later, on 11/15/23.
There is a centuries-old quote from Michelangelo: “The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.”
When it comes to the relationship between the 8 billion of us and the planet, it’s not that there are too many of us; it’s that we still don’t do as many of the easy eco-friendly things we could. Hopefully, we will soon. 🌎 🤍 🪽. #RealLoveSimpleAction
